- Rankings: Muse reached No. 1 on the US App Store on September 18 and has held it since. It topped Google Play on September 19.
- Growth: Sensor Tower says downloads grew 55% day over day on average in the first two weeks (September 8–17). ChatGPT averaged 24% in its first 10 days.
- Estimates vary: Apptopia puts total downloads at 4.3 million and Appfigures at about 2.3 million.
- Promotion: Meta is running heavy house ads for Muse across Facebook and Instagram and buying ads on Reddit, TikTok and YouTube. Still, Sensor Tower says ads accounted for only 6% of its impressions through September 19.
- New features: announced at Meta Connect: video chat with the Muse avatar, computer use on the Mac, a dedicated email address, more connectors, and smart-glasses integration.
Our take
Muse shows real mass-market demand for personal agents, and that distribution is still Big Tech’s edge: Meta can route billions of existing users straight to it.
For small teams building personal assistants or agents, head-on competition in general-purpose assistants just got harder; vertical use cases or deep integrations look more realistic. Also, The Information reported that a security researcher found a vulnerability in Muse, after which Meta strengthened its in-app safety warning. Think twice before granting it access to your email and computer.
